Indonesian English Language Study Program 2012
The Indonesian English Language Study Program (IELSP) is a scholarship program offered by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs that helps develop young Indonesian leaders while improving their English language proficiency and critical thinking skills. Iowa State University is a selected university in the United States of America which offers this eight-week course. IELSP provides its participants with an opportunity to gain a first hand experience of American society and culture to better enhance their academic and professional careers.
Permias Ames has had the privilege to interact with the Indonesian English Language Study Program students throughout their eight-weeks in Ames, Iowa. We organized a "Welcome to Ames" celebration at Moore Memorial Park on June 25, 2012 and "Indonesian Games" on July 3rd, 2012 at Schilletter University Village for the IELSP participants to build a strong and lasting relationship as an Indonesian family. The IELSP participants performed various Indonesian dances and songs during "Indonesia Day" at the Ames Public Library. Approaching the end of the IESLP participants stay in Ames, Iowa we had several buka bersama to celebrate the first days of Ramadan.
